A scorpene class submarine INS Kalvari, named after Naval force's first underwater craft, was introduced into the Indian Navy service in the presence of PM Narendra Modi.


The commissioning ceremony took place in Mumbai in the presence of India's Prime Minister, Defence Minister, Chief of Naval Staff, Mumbai Governor, Chief Minister and other officials

About the submarine:

Kalvari is a part of Indian Navy's Project-75 and is named after the dreaded tiger shark of Indian ocean. The construction of the submarine uses a modular approach having a total length of 67.5 meters and height of 13.3 meters. The boat has 360 battery cells and is designed to produce minimum underwater resistance.
It also has advanced stealth features like acoustic silence techniques, optimized shape, low radiated noise, precision guided weapons to combat enemy ships.
